Mac Administrator & Automation Engineer

I’ve been managing Macs since 1997. Today I’m a Senior Information Technology Engineer at PrizePicks, where I build the scripts, internal tools, and guardrails that keep a managed Apple fleet running.

What I Do

Most of my work sits between endpoint administration and software engineering. I manage Jamf Pro and JumpCloud, write the tools that connect them to other systems, and put review and deployment controls around scripts that would otherwise be pasted directly into an MDM console.

  • Mac management - Jamf Pro, JumpCloud, Apple Business Manager, Munki, and AutoPkg
  • Automation - Bash and Python for deployment, inventory, patching, and internal workflows
  • Security - Credential handling, temporary admin access, vulnerability patching, and audit trails
  • Change control - Git, pull requests, CI checks, versioned releases, and rollback plans

Experience Highlights

Current: Senior Information Technology Engineer at a sports technology company (2024-Present)

Previously: I’ve managed Mac environments across large universities, financial services organizations with strict security requirements, and everything in between. Career highlights include:

  • Built Mac management systems from the ground up at UNC Charlotte, managing multi-node Jamf infrastructure and Automated Device Enrollment migration
  • Served as VP of Information Technology at Classic, overseeing security, infrastructure, and development teams through ISO 27001 certification
  • Managed computing operations for a 5-department university merger, scaling from 30 to 175 faculty/staff
  • Implemented Mac management solutions using Munki, AutoPkg, and custom bash automation

I’ve been working with Mac systems since 1997, spanning roles from hands-on administration to leadership positions. My background includes Linux system administration, VMware/Ansible infrastructure, and extensive security work with proxy, DLP, and IPS systems.

Technical Approach

Most of the systems I write about here started with an operational problem: a secret committed to a repository, a patching loop that would not end, a workflow that depended on someone remembering a manual step. I try to leave each one with a repository as its source of truth, a dry run before anything destructive, useful logs, and enough documentation that someone else can operate it.

This site is where I write down what I built, what broke, and what I would change the next time. Some projects are public and some are not, but the implementation details and mistakes are usually the useful part.
